APR WBBC defeated REG WBBC 82–71 to clinch the Zone 5 Championship, marking the club’s first-ever triumph in the regional tournament.
The much-anticipated final, filled with intensity from both sides, was played on Saturday, November 15, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya, wrapping up a week-long competition.
APR WBBC came out strong, with Destiney Promise Philoxy and Yacine Diop setting the pace early. Their sharp offensive execution gave the team a 22–12 lead after the first quarter.
REG WBBC responded with renewed energy in the second quarter, led by standout performances from Faustine Mwizerwa and Kadidia Maiga. Their scoring surge trimmed the gap to just two points, making it 28–26.
But with two minutes left in the half, APR WBBC regained control through Lucas and Assouma Uwizeye, closing the second quarter on top, 40–28.
The momentum shifted again in the third quarter, as REG WBBC mounted another comeback behind Kristina King and Gloriose Byukusenge, who kept pace with Kayana. Their efforts brought the game to a tight 47–44.
In the dying five seconds of the quarter, Kamba Diakite sank a crucial basket over Lance, allowing APR WBBC to maintain a narrow 59–57 lead heading into the final stretch.
In the fourth quarter, the army side unleashed its full firepower, with Italee Lucas, Assouma Uwizeye, and Kamba Yoro piling on points to widen the margin.
At the final buzzer, APR WBBC sealed an 82–71 victory over REG WBBC, capturing their historic first Zone 5 title.
Beyond winning the trophy, APR WBBC also ended a painful 10-game losing streak against REG WBBC across all competitions.
Both teams will represent Zone 5 at the upcoming Africa Women Basketball League, featuring 10 top clubs from across the continent. The tournament will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from December 5 to 15, 2025.
