APR Women’s Basketball Club (APR WBBC), representing Rwanda at the FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball League, secured the bronze medal after edging Senegal’s ASC Ville de Dakar 90–84 in a thrilling third-place playoff decided in overtime.
The encounter took place on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Prince Abdallah Al Faisal Sports Hall in Cairo, Egypt, which has been hosting the continental tournament.
The game got off to a fast-paced start, with Yacine Diop and Mame Khoudia Fall leading the scoring for their respective sides. ASC Ville de Dakar narrowly took the first quarter 26–24.
In the second quarter, both teams remained closely matched, exchanging baskets with neither side opening a significant gap. However, in the final three minutes before halftime, Julie Dacosta and Couna Ndao sparked a surge for the Senegalese side. ASC Ville de Dakar won the quarter 22–18, heading into the break with a 48–42 lead.
APR WBBC returned with renewed energy in the third quarter. Inspired performances from Destiney Promise Philoxy and Assouma Uwizeye saw the Rwandan champions claw back the deficit and level the score at 61–61. Late baskets from Ndoumbe Mbodj and Aminata Ndong restored ASC Ville de Dakar’s advantage, though APR won the quarter 26–21. Despite that push, the Senegalese side held a slim 69–68 lead.
The final quarter belonged to APR WBBC, with Philoxy once again stepping up to give her team a 76–72 advantage. ASC Ville de Dakar mounted a late comeback through Julie Dacosta and Diouma Berthez, cutting the gap to just one point at 84–83.
With 11 seconds left, Kierstan Bell committed a foul on Aliyah Matharu, who calmly converted one free throw to level the game at 84–84 and force overtime.
In the extra five minutes, APR WBBC took full control, driven by Destiney Promise Philoxy’s scoring prowess. The Rwandan side closed out the contest 90–84, reclaiming the bronze medal they had last won in 2024.
REG WBBC, the other Rwandan representative, finished the tournament in seventh place.
The bronze-medal match was followed by the final, where hosts Al Ahly SC of Egypt defeated Ferroviário de Maputo of Mozambique 77–51 in front of their home fans to lift the WBAL 2025 title.
