FIBA WBLA 2025: APR AND REG ADVANCE TO THE QUARTERFINALS

Rwanda’s representatives in the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa 2025 (WBLA)—APR WBBC and REG WBBC—have both secured their places in the quarterfinals after strong performances in the group stage.

On Thursday, December 10, 2025, APR WBBC wrapped up its final Group C game with an emphatic 89–66 victory over CNSS of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

APR’s triumph was driven by an outstanding performance from Senegalese star Yacine Diop, who delivered 24 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. She was well supported by teammates Kierstan Bell with 18 points, Italee Lucas and Kamba Diakite with 14 points each, and Assouma Uwizeye, who added 12 points.

The win secured APR second place in Group C with 5 points, one point behind group leaders ASC Ville de Dakar of Senegal. CNSS finished third with 4 points and also advanced as one of the best-performing losing teams, while Malawi’s Brave Hearts BBC exited the competition after losing all their matches.

REG had already punched its ticket to the quarterfinals on Wednesday after a commanding 81–53 win over Friend’s Basketball Association of Ivory Coast in their final Group A match.

REG finished second in the group with 5 points, just one point behind Al Ahly of Egypt and one point ahead of Sporting Clube de Luanda of Angola. Sporting advanced as well, while Friend’s Basketball Association was eliminated after a winless run.

In Group B, two teams advanced: defending champions Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique, who topped the group with 6 points, and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), who followed with 5 points. Nigeria’s First Bank Basketball Cluband Cameroon’s FAP failed to progress.

  • REG WBBC vs ASC Ville de Dakar
  • FERR. MAPUTO vs SPORTING CLUBE
  • AL AHLY vs C.N.S.S

Should APR reach the semifinals, they are likely to face tournament favorites Al Ahly.

Teams that did not qualify for the quarterfinals will continue playing classification games to determine rankings from 5th to 12th place.

The 2025 FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa is taking place in Cairo, Egypt, at Abdullah Al-Faisal Hall, running from December 5 to December 14, 2025.
