Sports journalists under the Association of Sports Journalists (AJSPORT) once again proved their dominance on the pitch, defeating a team of rappers ahead of the highly anticipated Icyumba Cya RAP – Second Edition concert.
The friendly match took place on the evening of December 18, 2025, at Zaria Court in Remera, and was organized as part of promotional activities for the concert scheduled for December 26, 2025, at the same venue.
In an entertaining and high-energy encounter, the sports journalists comfortably beat the rappers 8–5.
Rusine Didier stole the show with a brilliant hat-trick, while Ephrem Kayiranga and Gylain also found the back of the net for the journalists. On the rappers’ side, Haruna Niyonzima scored twice, with additional goals coming from Jay C, Mironko, and Zeo Trap.
This result echoed last year’s encounter in 2024, where the journalists had already thrashed the rappers 7–2, confirming their growing reputation as a tough side to beat.
The rappers’ team featured several well-known names, including Diplomate as goalkeeper, alongside Jay C, Young Grace, Kenny K Shot, Zeo Trap, Bruce the 1st, Logan Joe, and football legend Haruna Niyonzima, who surprised many by participating. Niyonzima is no stranger to music, having previously collaborated with the late Jay Polly on the song “Wicika Intege.”
Other artists present in the Icyumba Cya Rap circle included Tuff Gang members (Bull Dog, P Fla, Fireman, Green P), Bushali, Riderman, and Fifi Raya.
On the journalists’ side were familiar media faces such as Jado Castar (B&B Kigali), Euphrem Kayiranga (Radio 10), Mugaragu David (RBA), among others.
This second edition of Icyumba Cya Rap, organized by Ma Africa, aims to become an annual event dedicated to supporting and celebrating Rwandan hip-hop culture.
