VOLLEYBALL: KEPLER VC OPENS CHAMPIONSHIP IN STYLE, WHILE THEIR FEMALE COUNTERPARTS FALL TO APR WVC

Kepler Volleyball Club kicked off the 2025–26 Rwanda National Volleyball Championship with a commanding 3–0 victory over REG VC in the season opener played on Friday, October 17, 2025.

The much-anticipated match pitted REG, coached by Mugisha Bavuga Benon, against Kepler VC, led by coach Jean Patrice Ndaki Mboulet. Kepler showed early dominance, taking the first set 25–21, before extending their lead with a 25–18 win in the second set. Although REG fought hard in the third set, Kepler held their nerve to close it 27–25 and secure a clean sweep.

“Left attacker Dusenge Wicklif from Kepler VC was the star of this match.

REG VC struggled throughout the match, largely due to being a newly formed team. From the coach to four of the starting players, most members are new to the setup. This inexperience showed, with the team committing several unforced errors and starting the opening set on a tough note, trailing 10–0.

APR WVC also started the year with its first victory.

In the women’s category, APR WVC began their campaign on a positive note, defeating Kepler WVC 3–1 (19–25, 25–16, 25–23, 25–14).

The men’s championship continues on Saturday, with Police VC taking on Kirehe VC at 11:00 a.m., followed by a clash between Gisagara VC and EAUR VC at 5:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at Petit Stade, Remera.
