VOLLEYBALL: RWANDA YOUTH VOLLEYBALL TEAM’S AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP JOURNEY ENDS IN QUARTERFINALS

Rwanda’s U20 national volleyball team has ended its journey at the 2025 African U20 Men’s Volleyball Championshipafter a quarterfinal defeat to host nation Egypt.

The match was played on Thursday, September 18, at the Hassan Mustafa Sports Hall in 6th of October City, Egypt — the venue currently hosting the tournament’s final rounds.

Backed by their home crowd, Egypt triumphed over Rwanda with a 3-1 set win, bringing Rwanda’s hopes of progressing further to an end.

Egypt dominated the first set, securing a quick 25-14 victory. However, the young Rwandan squad bounced back with energy and determination, winning the second set 25-22, leveling the score at 1-1.

But the hosts quickly regained control, winning the next two sets 25-15 and 25-15, closing the match and advancing to the semifinals.

Rwanda’s campaign has been a tough one — they failed to secure any win during the group stages, falling to Kenya, Cameroon, and Morocco.

Despite the loss, the team’s journey continues as they now compete for 5th to 8th place. Their next match will be against Algeria on Friday, September 19, at 10:00 AM Kigali time.
