The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed that the preliminary round match between Egypt’s Pyramids FC and Rwanda’s APR FC will take place at the Kigali Pelé Stadium.
This decision follows a recent letter from CAF raising concerns about the stadium in Nyamirambo, citing that it no longer meets the required standards — despite having previously been approved for hosting preliminary matches of continental competitions.
However, in a final updated list released this Friday, CAF reaffirmed that the match between APR FC and Pyramids FC will indeed be played at Kigali Pelé Stadium on October 1st at 2:00 PM local time (14:00).
This marks the third consecutive year the two sides face off in the Champions League. Last season, they met in the second preliminary round, with Pyramids eliminating APR FC with a 4-2 aggregate score before going on to win the tournament by defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.
The winner between APR and Pyramids will advance to face the victor of the tie between Ethiopia Insurance and Zanzibar’s Mlandege FC.
