Pyramids FC, the emerging force of Egyptian football, made history on June 1, 2025, by winning its very first CAF Champions League title. The Cairo-based club showed greater efficiency in front of goal, edging South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the second leg of the final.
This emotional night in Cairo brings the 2024-2025 African club season to a dramatic close. For the first time in history, Egypt boasts four different clubs crowned continental champions—a CAF record. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg in South Africa, Pyramids clinched a 3-2 aggregate win, thanks to goals from Fiston Mayele in the 23rd minute and Ahmed Samy in the 56th. Iqraam Rayners pulled one back for Sundowns in the 75th minute, but it wasn’t enough.
With this historic triumph, Pyramids FC now stands alongside Egyptian football giants Ismaily SC, Zamalek SC (5 titles), and the record-holding Al Ahly SC (12 titles) as continental champions. Pyramids succeeds Al Ahly, who dominated the previous two editions of the CAF Champions League in 2023 and 2024.
