The 46th edition of the CAVB Men’s African Club Championship came to a dramatic close in Misurata, Libya, with the host team Swehly SC clinching the continental crown in front of a passionate home crowd.
Swehly SC edged Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis in a thrilling five-set final (25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-10) on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. The match was marked by intense moments both on and off the court, with flares, smoke, and wild celebrations from the Libyan fans adding to the electrifying atmosphere.
Tensions ran high throughout the match, with several interruptions due to crowd invasions, forcing the intervention of Libyan security forces to restore order.
In the third-place playoff, Rwanda’s APR VC fell short against Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, losing in straight sets (25-16, 25-15, 25-18) and finishing fourth in the competition.
Rwanda’s other representative, Kepler VC, who were making their debut in the tournament, concluded their campaign in 16th place out of the 23 participating teams.
Despite missing out on a podium finish, APR VC had a reason to celebrate as Denis Ireke was named the tournament’s Best Outside Hitter — a proud moment for Rwandan volleyball.
