In the semifinals of the games for the Kwibuka Genocide Memorial Tournament, which honors the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, two teams from Rwanda made it to the final. The games took place on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
In a tough match, APR BBC defeated Dar City from Tanzania with a score of 81-68, while UGB triumphed over KPA 77-55.
In the game where APR BBC defeated Dar City, both teams showcased impressive skills. Some even claimed that it was a final before the final, as each side had strong players. APR scored the first 18 points all from three-pointers, with Shema Osborn and Ntore Habimana performing exceptionally well. On the Dar City side, player Hasheem Thabeet, who stands at 2.21 meters, caused problems for APR with his presence both in scoring and defense. At the end of the first quarter, APR led with a score of 19-14.
The second quarter began with a quick response from Obadiah Noel of Dar City. APR BBC then started to capitalize, outpacing Dar City. American player Chasson Randle was at his peak, and by halftime, APR BBC was in the lead with a score of 45-31.
In the third quarter, both teams increased their pace, with Dar City trying to reduce the deficit. South Sudanese player Deng Dhieu and Klyian R. showed strong performances, but APR BBC held firm. The third quarter ended with Dar City scoring 23 points, while APR managed 19.
In the final quarter, Dar City started with high energy and scored seven consecutive points. Deng was on fire, having scored 25 points alone. However, APR BBC, playing on home turf with support from their fans, fought back and regained control, especially with a strong performance from Aliou Diarra.
The game ended with APR BBC defeating Dar City 81-63.
APR BBC reached the final for the second consecutive time and will face UGB BBC.
UGB BBC also made it to the final, beating KPA BBC 77-55.
In the women’s category, REG BBC triumphed over APR BBC with a score of 70-49, while Uganda’s JKL Dolphins defeated KPA W BBC 74-62.
The final games and the third-place matches are scheduled for this Sunday.
