APR VC and Kepler VC, Rwanda’s representatives at the ongoing CAVB Club Championship in Misurata, Libya, have shown strong performances in their opening games of the tournament.
The championship, which brings together 23 of Africa’s top volleyball clubs—each a national champion—kicked off on Saturday, April 20, and will run through to April 29, 2025.
Both Rwandan teams have secured two wins out of three matches played so far, with their only losses coming against tough North African opponents known for their dominance in continental volleyball.
On Tuesday, April 22, APR VC bounced back with a commanding straight-sets victory (25-23, 25-19, 25-15) over VC Emmanuel from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This followed a loss the previous day to Tunisia’s powerhouse Esperance Sportive, who swept them in straight sets.
Kepler VC, on the other hand, had a thrilling match against Libya’s Ittihad, played in front of a passionate home crowd. Despite the pressure, Kepler was defeated in straight sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-21). However, they had previously claimed a solid win against PAD VC from Cameroon (25-23, 25-19, 25-21).
Currently, APR VC sits third in Group D while Kepler VC is third in Group C.
Both teams are gearing up for their fourth matches on Wednesday, April 23. APR VC will face Cameroon’s Litto VC, and Kepler VC will take on Kenya’s Prison VC. Wins in these fixtures would guarantee both teams spots in the round of 16.
